Retirement is not for Dennis Hulbert -- or me
Check out my latest podcast episode with a West Coast man that spent 39 years with the U.S.D.A Forest Service, created a fire retardant innovation, and then founded Machaira Entertainment.
Today I want to share with you the latest episode #154 of the Agents of Innovation podcast — with Dennis Hulbert, a Californian who now lives primarily in Montana.
Dennis had a very successful career for 39 years with the U.S.D.A Forest Service as the Region 5 Aviation Officer representing California and Pacific Islands. Through his experience he also created an innovation in the fire retardant space.
After retiring from that career, a new life began for Dennis!
That’s when he began to focus on his lifelong passion as a musician and his work with the music group that he founded 33 years ago, Machaira.
Working with such notable musicians as John McFee from Doobie Brothers, Billy Kirchen from Commander Cody, Dennis is looking to take his band to a new level.
This journey is allowing Dennis the opportunity to work/record with many great players: Marc Russo- from Doobie Brothers, Mic Gillette from Tower Of Power, Michael Hossack from Doobie Brothers, Brent Bourgeois from Bourgeois Tagg, Scott Joss from Merle Haggard, and Keith Edwards from Ricky Skaggs, to name a few.
Dennis is also now devoting his time to developing and managing the Machaira band and the Go Girls of Machaira. Along with co-managing Machaira Entertainment, a multi-facet entertainment endeavor.
A few insights from this episode:
Surround yourself with good people
Learn by doing
Never miss a gig
Practice
Covering an Elvis song will get Francisco’s attention
Dennis is also proof that life does not end at retirement. In fact, it may just begin! He gives more inspiration to my own belief that I’ll never retire. (What’s that?) Thank you to Dennis for charting the course!
I encourage you to listen to this episode #154 of the Agents of Innovation podcast with Dennis Hulbert. It’s available on all the audio platforms you’re used to listening to podcasts on including Apple and Spotify. You can also watch on YouTube below.
